<p> The program of Clare Boothe Luce, Henry Luce Foundation, Inc., New York, has $  180,000 as a donation to Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering at the university research awards for students and 24 women over a to fund three-year period. The awards, beginning in 2013, scholarships and students at Olin researching women with a faculty advisor. The recipients will be known as Clare Boothe Luce, research scholars. </P>
<p> &#8220;We are very pleased that the Luce Foundation has recognized Olin guidance in preparing women for careers in science and technology,&#8221; said Richard K. Miller, president of Olin College. &#8220;Recruiting talented women and men of talent, has always been an important focus of our activity for approval. This is just one of many ways that empower women, to the success of scientists and engineers. The awards will be a significant boost to our efforts, women to win for our program performance and prepare them for innovative world-class scientists, engineers and innovators to offer. &#8220;</P>
<p> Research Scholars Program at Olin College, CBL, students with women who have completed their first or second year have the option of a research project in full-time summer and part-time during the school year, provide the next behavior. Other activities involving students Olin CBL includes weekly facilitated discussion group open to travel for all Olin community members, building relationships with mentors and colleagues, the public presentation of their work, at conferences, publication of the results of their work and any visits to the to campus to explore graduate school options and career researchers in their areas of interest. The Luce Foundation is funding additional resources to complement existing initiatives in support of the Olin men and women for a career in science and technology. </P>
<p> &#8220;We are very excited about the research program of the Clare Boothe Luce at Olin College to start,&#8221; said Sarah Spence Adams, project leader and professor of mathematics and electrical engineering and computer science at Olin. &#8220;Get The program will offer participants the most important women&#8217;s experiences in research and close mentoring relationship with faculty advisors dedicated research. The skills and opportunities for our students in this program are including participation in conferences, professional skills transformative. &#8220;</P>
<p> Each award is a stipend for summer research, summer housing, an additional scholarship and four course credits for further research on the following academic year and access to additional funds to cover expenses related to the research, conference participation fees and travel expenses. Olin College faculty contribute time, the summer on campus, mentoring and mentor support. </P>
<p> &#8220;We want to build a strong network of support among the scholars of Clare Booth Luce, research and mentoring program, and we expect our students also continue to use this network after graduation, while at school or continue their career &#8220;said Adams. &#8220;We also hope to students who do not participate, directly benefiting the program, for example through specific mentoring programs and activities that all students are open.&#8221; </P>
<p> Since its first grants in 1989, the Clare Boothe Luce Program for the largest source of private support for women in science, mathematics and technology. Clare Boothe Luce (1903-1987), wife of Henry R. Luce was a playwright, journalist, U.S. Ambassador to Italy and the first woman elected Congress from Connecticut. &#8220;Encourage women to enter, study, graduate and teaching&#8221; by his bequest establishing this program, based on sought in science, mathematics and technology. The program is part of the New York-based Henry Luce Foundation, founded in 1936 by Henry R. Luce, co-founder and editor in chief of Time Inc., the Foundation focuses on the knowledge and promoting the highest standards of service and leadership. </P>
<p> opened in 2002, Olin College of Engineering has quickly gained a national reputation for innovation in engineering education. With only six graduating classes and 430 students (43 percent women) to today&#8217;s Olin also emerging as a major producer of young women who continue to study in science and technology. Currently, 45 percent of all Olin students are women, an unusually high percentage for a school of engineering. Sixty-two Olin alumni (35 percent) are in graduate programs, most of them enrolled in the best universities in areas such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and bioengineering. Twenty of these women have received the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (70 percent of the 30 recipients of Olin Graduate Fellowship NSF). Olin women have also won the Goldwater Scholarship and five Fulbright. </P>
